The industry is a fundamental element of the organisation record. If you can add company name and position then I can't understand why this wouldn't be the case for industry. You include pretty much all of the fields within the organisation record. Knowing the industry information is really important for our business needs. Not having this feature just creates extra work for us as we'd have to export all organisation records that were added/updated recently with the industry blank and compare that list with the data within the other system.
